Does Doterra Essential Oils Scam People? Unbiased Review For You

Posted by in These Are Okay | 150 comments

doterra essential oils scamThe big Doterra essential oils scam question pops up once in a while and you know what, I can kind of see why. Now, I must tell you that I am not a distributor or going to try to sell you this product or pitch you the business opportunity. I’m just here to give you a review and give you my unbiased opinion. Yes, I would say that the majority of people promoting this company are distributors trying to market. There’s nothing wrong with that, but the bigger questions are do the oils actually work, and can you really make a bunch of money by joining? Most likely you want to know the secrets to making money from home and what will really work.

The Doterra Essential Oils Product

doterra oils exampleBasically the main product line is a variety of these specific health oils. What kind? Well it ranges from lavender, peppermint, lemon, different blends, and lots of others. So the way it works is let’s say that you have trouble sleeping.

Well, there’s an oil for that. You apply it and it’s supposed to help you sleep. Or lets say you have a cough or some kind of chronic condition. Many have claimed after using these oils, they fixed their condition. Who knows.

I Have Talked To Someone Who Said It Worked

I actually have chatted with a distributor who said the reason why he became a distributor is because he used the oils and they worked for him. It wasn’t mainly for the business opportunity, which is why most people join. But from what I remember, he said he was on medications and nothing worked for his hay fever. But then took some oils and for the first time in years, was able to rest and sleep well.

Can I say for certain that they work? No. Some say yes, some say say no.

The Money-Making Side of Doterra

mlm The Doterra Essential Oils company is also a multi-level marketing business. What does this mean? It means you can make lots of money selling this stuff. Basically you pay a fee to go into business with them and you become a distributor. Now you can make money selling these oils to customers who need them and make even more money recruiting people to become distributors under you.

So Is It A Scam?

My honest conclusion to the Doterra Essential Oils scam question is: no, it’s not a scam. I mean think about it. There are tons of vitamin companies out there that make 100’s of millions of dollars per year, and I’ve seen study after study indicating that our bodies can only absorb so much. Yet people are still buying vitamins and there are always products out there that really sell perceived value more than anything. It’s called BUSINESS. Plus, some people have said it worked for them. I can’t take that away from them. My best advice is to try it out if you’re that curious.

  1. The oils can help all these ailments but this one brand doterra of oils isn’t more pure than others. I work at a crime lab and we have tested several doterra oils, YL and other oils and they all were very close with byproducts which help make the oils last, etc. I think the pure testing is crap! Also, I’m from the northwest we love ND, natural medicine and all the doctors from Bastyr University said essential oils are to be used for aromatherapy only, ingested isn’t recommended! Lots of kids have been given the oils for stomach issues etc and the levels were toxic. Obviously essential oils has some great properties, helps in healing if taken correctly but this company doterra is not great. Lavender, wild orange should be super cheap. The cost only varies by $20 on everything. Plus everyone should be able to buy products and resale without having to join the cult! Buying and resealing products is how capitalism works, having to report over $400 is a scam.

  2. Can someone tell me if it is policy procedure for a Diamond doTerra rep to ask people to create what she calls GHOST accounts and buy a ton of product on this account in order to rank. This is borderline PONZI. Also, she is encouraging people to just get some willing person’s SIN number in order to start this Ghost account. Help? PONZI scheme in Waterloo County.

  3. I recently went to a party because I was interested in learning more about essential oils. I was very upset by the sales rep slamming the fruit industry. She needs to be better educated.
I live in the number one county for fruit production in Canada
Her comments turned me off her product because she is uneducated

  4. my only comment after reading a few reviews of doTerra is that it sounds alot like Avon and Regal. I have sold both. Are they scams? i made money but not very much. But the irl who got me on board made money off me and about 6 other consultants. I did it because i enjoyed it. End Of.

  5. I was not a seller for 6 month then one day my friend seen me in pain she’s the one who tried to educate me on the oils months ago. She said rub this on you stomach it was the DigestZen and within minutes I felt relief – I was sold immediately from that point on! Scam no never that

    • The power of suggestion. Fools are everywhere.

  6. I could not recommend this company or its products after the unethical way I was treated by their representative

  7. I am a Wellness Advocate with doTerra. I use the oils for me and in some natural blends for friends and family. I share and educate. ..if the want to buy through me, great. If not, I hope I have given them the education they need to continue their education to make a decision.

I started investigating essential oils after becoming highly sensitive to most cleaning products. Most of my cleaning products are now homemade with oils. I use them to relieve symptoms of chronic pain, muscle aches, cold symptoms, and minor infections. Are they a cure all? No, but the do decrease the amount of pharmaceuticals and store bought cleaners in our home

  8. Having heard about essential oils and using my daughter in laws Serenity on a visit last month I did some research then sought out a local store. I ended up going to a class the following week. There were 3 speakers and the owner of the store. I never felt pressured at any point. Just listened and asked questions. After, I talked with the owner and she told me the benefits of becoming a member and did give a little info on sharing but not one bit of pressure about recruiting other people etc…..Her thing was the benefit to me for my personal use. I did buy the kit but have no plans to become a business. I guess I was lucky to find someone who loves the product and didn’t push. I use the lavender in a diffuser at night and no longer lay there for an hour before falling asleep !! I am looking forward to doing more research and experimenting. If it’s not for you, don’t use it !!!! Simple.

  9. I just wanted to comment to say that this was a horribly written article. Or I suppose I should say it was horribly researched! A few minutes of googling and I found out that in 2014, out of more than a million distributors, doTerra only gave out 158,000 commission checks and out of those, the majority was for around $1600 for the whole year! So basically enough to pay for only SOME of their oils. During 2015, out of 2 million members, only about 20% or 225,000 received checks that were enough to pay for some oils. Yet this author wrote that selling doTerra oils is a good way to make money.

The author also said that doTerra isn’t a scam. While it’s not a scam in the traditional sense, it’s definitely a SCHEME!! It charges its distributors a fee to join and get the products and then they have to try to get people to be distributors to be in their line so they can make money off of every sale those people make and money off of every person those people have in their line, and on and on. It’s a tradition pyramid scheme! Or MLM.

Not only that but have you ever actually talked to someone who sells doTerra? They sound like they are in a cult! If you question anything about the oils they come back with, “We have science and the best researchers in the world that have proven that our oils blah blah blah…” I questioned if I could take grapefruit orally because it would interact with my meds and was told that it wouldn’t. When I asked if a pharmacist had been asked if it was ok I was told that a pharmacist would know nothing about oils but that the owner of doTerra has already had that researched and proven it’s 100% safe and I should trust him because his pharmacists and researchers are the best in the world so if anyone would know it would be them!! Ummm… No. I didn’t take it. I don’t think I’m going to just take the word of a rich guy who started a pyramid scheme. The oils I got were samples or gifts. I just like the smell. I’ve used it for edema and it didn’t do anything.

Also, they are all terrified of the FDA. Or they have been told to be terrified of the FDA. In one class after hearing many comments to that affect, I asked why the fda being involved with doTerra would be such a bad thing. Wouldn’t we want them making sure these were safe and testing to see if it does cure cancer?!? They claimed that the FDA was always trying to shut them down because they don’t want the world knowing all about how well oils really work!! That they make more money selling prescription drugs. Nevermind that it’s actually the pharmaceutical companies that make all the money, not the FDA. But you try telling that to a doTerra seller!! I just found it odd that they were all so worried about being shut down by them. Like they had been fed a bunch of BS from higher up the food chain and they all believed it!

DoTerra IS a scam in my opinion!! They claim that they are ethical and that they don’t allow their distributors to make claims about health benefits from using doTerra but they all do!! Just in one class alone I heard about how it helped with severe anxiety, learning disabilities, eczema, the lymphatic system, cancer, etc. etc.

Anyway, the author of this article would do a lot better if they actually did a little research next time!

    • I used to work for the FDA. If you think that the pharmaceutical companies are the only ones who profit from their drugs, you may need to do some more research. Who do you think controls the drug companies? There is a huge “behind the scenes” action that goes on and pretty much most of the world has . no idea.
Also, have you ever found a drug that doesn’t have side effects? I haven’t.
I love to research. I am in the medical field and I am good at researching most any drug and in the last 5 years, have been researching essential oils. There are some pretty good ones out there if you are looking for a quick fix. But in my research, I have found that DoTerra exemplifies the competitor. How many oil companies do their own research to find the purest form of oils? How many oil companies will let you know the ingredients (all of the ingredients) in their bottles? And how many oil companies can prove that they are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils?
I was a skeptic like anyone else. I have been using pharmaceuticals all my life. And I was experiencing some horrible side effects. I was put on the latest and greatest every time a new drug came out.
And then I got sick of all the cost, side effects, and B.S. and decided to find something else. Even if it was clean eating, vitamins, supplements, bio freeze gel etc.
I have tried a lot of different things. I was introduced to the brand DoTerra about 4 years ago in my research with oils. I have always been a “hands on” learner. So I tried it. I used the same oil for a year. And guess what? It eased my pain. So I started researching more and more about DoTerra. I tried lots and lots of other oils but I found that my body can process DoTerra oils better.
I became a wellness advocate because they work for me. I don’t sell the product very often, and I’m not in the pyramind. I just have found that these oils work amazing for me and my ailments.
I encourage you to try just one bottle of DoTerra.

      • Thank you much for setting the record straight. ….

      • There is absolutely no way you worked for the FDA.
Your sentence structure is atrocious and punctuation inconsistent. Nice try though!

      • Certified pure therapeutic grade is a trademarked term that means nothing. If you actually worked for the FDA, you’d know that.

    • Dear Doubting Friend, looks like you need to do more research.

“I questioned if I could take grapefruit orally because it would interact with my meds and was told that it wouldn’t”

Here is doTERRA’s Grapefruit Essential Oil is made from the peels only. The pulp is what interacts with medications, not the peel.

The FDA is not trying to shut down doTERRA or any other essential oil company. In fact it is the opposite. Essential Oils are classified as cosmetics therefore they are not highly regulated which leaves room for a lot of labeling/mislabeling and misleading information with little education….such as your statements and claims.

If you research further you will find doTERRA far exceeds testing and quality control. I would highly recommend actually going to all of the essential oil companies website to collect proper fact-finding for a more highly educated stance.

  10. Hey. If you like what they sell, buy it. Use it. If you don’t buy something different.

I buy ibuprofen. Since I got shingles on my face I have had painful headaches that I never had before that. It works for me. And I use common sense, not using it every time I get an ache or pain. I only use it when I need it, maybe 5 times a month, two to three little pills. It messes with the lining of some people’s stomachs or intestines. Fine. They don’t have to buy it. Some people buy marijuana. It’s illegal in most states in America, and it messes with people’s brain cells and common sense, (along with alcohol)…but people still sell it and buy it. Even in Colorado, where the stuff is now legal…people jumped on that bandwagon, and there are thousands of people benefitting from that who aren’t really out to do the public good, as the very few may be. I love McDonald’s Big Mac. Think McDonald’s is out to sell something good to us? Is a Big Mac good for me? Is their all white meat chicken good for me? Heck no. But I can choose to buy and eat one, and I can freely choose to “purchase” a restaurant to put in my town because I know it will make money form the industrial park employees every day of the week. Even if I hate the food at Mickey D’s, I can still make money – lots? – off of what others want!

In the end, this whole article is a ridiculous argument. I like Tupperware. In fact, this past year I ordered two lids for two bowls I have that have way outlasted Rubbermaid and Pyrex bowls I bought since I got my Tupperware back in 1996. I can’t figure out where my lids disappeared to, so I had to get them replaced. Bit expensive, compared to the Glad ones offered on my grocery store shelf. But they’re worth it.

I like Tupperware, and Tupperware in my opinion pays for itself over and over and over again. And I didn’t buy mine from Target. i bought mine from a “pyramid scheme.” I do use dōTERRA products because I saw them work for my mother when nothing else worked. AND I saw them work in comparison to the medicines she was put on at the doctor’s office and in the hospital that threw her into diabetes and high blood pressure and gout. And she didn’t really need to be on those meds in the first place. But there are bad reactions to many of the products that our FDA approves and uplifts. You think cigarette companies are in it to help us out? They’re not in it for the billions and billions??? Where is anything in your article and argument about FDA certification? I don’t trust the FDA as far as I can throw my house. I prefer to use what works, and doesn’t cause side effects that cause the medicine companies to get even richer. And I feel dōTerra is worth the cost. I mean, we pay for health insurance but that health insurance said my mom’s medicines were acceptable, and those same meds drove her to have to get other medicines to counteract the ones she was already on, and then that medicine caused more problems in addition, and then the three meds didn’t work well together and caused other issues, and she was sick for years in a row… Then the amazing happened. One garage sale to pick up an old door, someone that thought they had something for that…One year on certain dōTERRA essential oils and blends (diffused, ingested, applied topically) and she hasn’t been sick once in that year. And other beneficial side effects came about as well…multiples. Not even trying to “fix” those things. My sister began using it for her issues and immediately there were results. Her children, who have pretty severe asthma and allergies to so many things in our food products and in nature, are now using certain – yes, certain…common sense rules for some people) dōTERRA essential oils, mostly topically, but a couple by diffusing and one by ingestion, and they are making strides where the medicines weren’t.

So I decided to become a Wellness Advocate. I believe in the stuff I sell. I can’t say that about the owner/franchiser, managers, or cashiers behind the counter at McDonald’s that make minimum wage on up to millions every year. Nor can I say that for Glad, who makes the cracked lids on my few remaining clear plastic storage containers. Nor can I say that about Jim Beam or Tyson. But I can say that about Tupperware ( I don’t sell the stuff) and dōTERRA ( I became an advocate last month). And my mom doesn’t sell dōTERRA. But I chose to. She didn’t make any money off of me. And neither did the lady she buys from because I signed up under someone nearer to my home. And I only had to pay a small startup fee, way less than I had to pay to start with Tupperware 20 years ago, a stint that only lasted about 7 months because I stunk at it. And what I had to pay was less than a four meals at McDonald’s for my husband and me. And I don’t sell it to make money. I have the choice to make money or to charge what I get charged because otherwise I would just give my purchases away if it means someone can reap the benefits like my mom has, like my sister has, like my aunt did with her cluster headaches, and like people with arthritis do in the town my mom lives in that she helps even though she doesn’t even sell it. So where is the money argument when it really boils down to the truth? Yes there are those, and I know them, that sell for the money, that reach for the stars and the conventions and rewards and the titles…but most of us do it because we have seen the good. And if someone gets a rash from using the lemon oil in their deodorant, like I did, then they can just switch to lavender or another oil that doesn’t cause the rash.

Common sense? Isn’t always on the good side. Just look at the little green plus signs on every other corner in Colorado, like the old 7-Elevens. Just like the FDA approved all kinds of quick diet supplements and regretted it later and had to eat their crow. So, I say, use good sense. If you buy a carpet or upholstery cleaner, it always has the little disclaimer to try in an inconspicuous area first to test for color fastness. Don’t get an oil and rub it all over your tummy and in your eyes. Don’t drink it like some people take NyQuil. Don’t measure oils out in ounces. If my best friend tried to steal my husband, I won’t keep her as my best friend. If I am an alcoholic, I stay out of bars. If any product, whether peanut butter or any of dōTERRA’s essential oils causes adverse reactions, don’t blast Jiffy or dōTERRA. Just discontinue purchasing and using that product. Easy peasy.

Again, in my opinion based on living on this planet for 45 years and watching how all other businesses work and how other people make money (like Apple, Microsoft, Sam’s Club, Verizon and Sprint, Proctor & Gamble, FedEx, Marlboro, Jaegermeister, BP, Mars, CocaCola, and my husband in his vegetable stand every summer …), I think I’ll stick with what I know works and let people make educated and experiential decisions for themselves. I have worse things to worry about. Like what I’m going to have for lunch today.

  11. Doterra is all about making profit. That fat cat sits at the top and feeds off those below. If you happen to be on the second tier and are not producing the person above you will intimidate you to transfer down so one of the more profitable ones can take your spot and bam no more commissions for you. I actually went to a meeting where the hostess told a story that rich people are nicer, better morals and don’t steal. She said if you left your coat on a chair a rich person would not take it but if a poor person was their they would steal it. Ok anyone’s else see any logic there? Duh the poor person needs the frikken coat and the rich person has so much they don’t need to pick up coat. Ugh! Oh she them said she was stranded on an island (bs) and a cruise ship docked and the passengers got off the boat and hung out on the beach they did not interact with the locals and take bike trips or go anywhere but the rich people would. She said it was one of those bargain cruises and basically they were just there to eat drink and sleep. I said well maybe those people were hard working and saved all their money for the cruise and just want to relax on the beach becaus they worked their asses off to afford the trip. So basically after that I got shunned!

    • All businesses want to make a profit. I’m sorry you had such a bad experience but it sounds like that was more a result of having a bad up line than the company. I’m with Doterra, love the products, and have never been pressured to enroll new people. The Blue Diamond leader of the group I’m in gives a lot of classes for education, posts videos to our FB page, and encourages us to follow our hearts. Not everyone who uses the products wants to build a business out of it, nor should they be made to feel like less for choosing that path. Clearly the people above you were judgemental, greedy, and selfish.

      • Great insight.I am new to doTerra ,vert new,and feeling a little overwhelmed by my upline. She has already given me information that is not in”my” best interest but hers.I have a hard time trusting her anymore. She is telling me to create a ghost account to put wholesale enrollees in now. She also said if someone does not appear to be on the business route I should place the under someone else in my line. That is not my style,I do not care if it benefits me more,it just does not seem right.

  12. I am amazed at some of the comments saying that people are selling these oils just to make money.
Surely, when you purchase a product in a shop, do you think they are only selling it to make money?

Everyone is trying to make a living. If you truly believe in a product then you tell your friends, family. Right?
Every business is a multi level marketing company.

When you truly believe in a product then you should shout it from the roof top. Being able to do this and earn money. Win win situation. PS I have not used these oils as yet, but I did buy the diffuser. Works well and it was cheaper than any other I have seen. Looks lovely too.

    • No, every business is NOT a multi-level marketing company. Multi-level marketing specifically refers to companies selling through individuals who then recruit other individuals to sell their products with the hope of gaining some percentage of the total sales. Most businesses sell to wholesalers who then place their products in retail stores, or they sell directly to retailers, whether those retailers are online or “bricks and mortar.”

Just telling your friends and family about a product is different from asking them to buy it from you. That doesn’t mean that every MLM company is a scam, just that some companies who sell this way make lots of money off the sales of individuals who try to enter into it as a business but end up losing money, in many cases lots of money. These oils seem innocuous enough, and if you think that they help you, that is fine. I just think that anybody who enters into one of these sorts of “businesses” should know the track record of them in general.

      • I actually agree that every business has the potential to become a Multi Level Marketing company. There is always someone at the top, usually the person who opened the company or if they have been around long enough, its a successor of some type. Once a company gets large enough they recruit (hire) individuals to sell and promote there products. The difference being a “standard” company, we’ll say Macys puts a cap on how many people they Recruit ( hire). The individuals, if they like what services or products they sell, they tell their friends, who then go into that place of business and buys their products or services. The difference is that individual gets a wage, rather then direct income from that sale. Although, someone, somewhere is getting the income from that sale. That is how business works and we all have to earn a living somehow. Whether we do it in the traditional style at a business that will pay you a wage, or we try to do it on our own through some sort of direct sale. It doesn’t make any one a scam, yes some individuals are ruthless and they are out just for the money, but not everyone is and it’s wrong to sale the whole company is bad because their are a few individuals that were dishonest or aren’t doing things on the up and up. Use caution, do your research and make your own choices on whether or not it is something you’d like to use. Please don’t assume that everyone is in it just for themselves, more times then not, it’s not true.

    • Thank you for your comment. I started doTERRA under my sister in law. I joined primarily because I wanted to make fun stuff out of essential oils and save money in the process. I tried their Serenity blend in the hopes that it might really help me get a better quality of sleep. And I have to tell you, every time I have diffused it in my room, I get a quality of sleep that is wonderful. I truly feel refreshed the next day. It has been a very long time since I’ve been able to say that and now I just want to share it with everyone. Thanks again.

    • Hi Shauna,
I just wanted to let you know that my experience with the oils has been amazing. I hope that this becomes your experience too!

  13. First to the discussion about MLM: whether you shop at home from a company such as doTERRA, Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware or you shop at Wal Mart, Target, CVS – they are ALL MLM. Somebody at the top is making more than somebody at the bottom, some can move up in the company, some don’t. Free enterprise, franchise, retail…that is how businesses thrive or don’t. Second to the discussion about essential oils and the FDA and claims of improved health benefits: oils have been around for a long time, they do work – for some and not for others. Not all RX meds work either. Doctors don’t always get the diagnosis right the first time either. Surgeries work and surgeries fail. Either way it’s a gamble. I’ve been trying essential oils for about 6 months now. They are working for me in multiple areas – with NO side affects! I am no off of muscle relaxers and narcotic pain meds. My husband no longer takes allergy OTC’s. Neither of us have acid reflux or indigestion anymore. So, things are looking good so far. Our family doctor is now doing research on essential oils, because we’ve told him we don’t want to take RX Meds if we don’t have to. He has medically documented the improvement in both of our health. Most doctors and hospitals and pharmaceutical companies are scratching each other’s backs. Just ask the medical assistants and LPNs in your doctor’s office how many freebies and free lunches and cookie trays they get a month. The FDA is a government entity, limited, with an agenda. Use common sense. Unfortunately there are people in all areas of employment: retail, MLM, car sales, medical, IRS, government, and even criminal justice system that may open their mouth and not tell the truth or we / me / you the listener not hear the truth. Is it possible some people pass out wrong information? Yes. Is it possible that happens in every day life in other areas? Yes. Read for yourself, do your own research. Approach with caution and approach with common sense in any business dealing or medical treatment or natural remedy.

    • No, there is a huge difference between WalMart, Target, CVS, and even Amazon and doTerra, Mary Kay, etc. MLM has a specific meaning, and the retailers you list are NOT the same thing. They don’t rely on individuals trying to drum up business to support a higher level distributor doing the same thing and so on up the line. To claim that somehow they are the same thing is just NOT accurate.

  14. I am totally amazed at all the negativity from people who are obviously uneducated about essential oils. There is plenty of research out there at universities and medical facilities proving that essential oils work. There is also an Essential Oils University where they test essential oils all over the world. There is also a world of difference in the quality of oils available. Some of the cheaper ones are diluted with phthalates and benzene which are both known as carcinogens (cancer causing) for those of you who are uneducated. The reason some of the pure oils like Sandalwood are so expensive is because it take between 40-80 years before roots are ready to be harvested from a Sandalwood tree. Rose oil is also expensive because it takes takes about 60,000 roses to produce just 1 ounce of oil, and ten thousand pounds of rose blossoms to produce 1 pound of oil. Several of doTERRA’s oils are only $10 to $20 and when compared to other products that may not be as pure, with the wholesale price and discounts doTERRA products are less expensive than other good quality oils. I earn 30% of everything I purchase and 25% wholesale cost, so in reality I am getting 55% discount. There are so many misconceptions about doTERRA that it is quite clear that those people have no concept of how doTERRA works and the wonderful products they have. In reading so many people’s comments, it is obvious to me that they have not done research or followed the proper protocol for applications. If they did, they would find that they work. But, like others have mentioned, it is a trial and error thing. What works for one person may not work for another because our systems are all different. But, be assured, essential oils do work. They have been used down through the ages for thousands of years. They are mentioned in the Bible more than 300 times. You just have to do your research to know how and when to use them. And, I saw where someone said Less is Best. This is true because essential oils are very concentrated. As an example one drop of Peppermint Oil is equal to 26 cups of tea and when On Guard was researched it showed that even diluted by 10,000 times, On-Guard was still effective against bacteria. So essential oils are like anything else – too much is a bad thing. This applies to anything in life, whether it be something internal or just everyday living. The research on essential oils is out there, so please people do your research before making such uneducated claims.

And, yest the FDA and Big Pharma don’t want us healing ourselves because it takes away from their pocketbooks. I’m surprised that so many hospitals are now using doTERRA in their emergency rooms. I guess as long as they don’t make medical claims it will be okay. Essential Oils, as well as all supplement companies have to be in compliance with the FDA and cannot make medical claims. Once a company gets big enough they are scrutinized by the FDA. Nature’s Sunshine Products is a successful MLM company. They have been around since 1972 and they are known to have quality products, but they had to go through the scrutiny of the FDA, as well as many other successful companies. The thing I find most alarming and sad is that drugs the FDA supports are killing people. Even knowing this, they don’t take those drugs off the market. The same with our food. How many of you have been clued in about GMO. 56 other countries have banned GMO, but not the USA. Some countries won’t even import food from the USA now because GMO is in 75% of our food. A recent study published in the journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology is proving genetically modified organisms (GMO) may cause kidney damage, liver failure and early death. Until recently there were no long term studies done on GMO’s but the more we learn, the more we’re realizing how dangerous these “frankenfoods” really are. Have any of you been listening to the Senate Hearing on CSpan? They are now discussing labeling and not putting GMO on labels; therefore, the public won’t know what they are purchasing. As far as I know they have never put GMO on labels. The way other companies have gotten around this is by putting Non-GMO their products so that we have the choice to purchase them. However, if they take that away it will be just one more right of many that have been taken away from us. Well, I have gotten way off the subject and am on my bandstand, so will quit while I am ahead. I get so frustrated and disappointed in what has happened to America so sorry for the rant. I just wish that more people would educate themselves about what is going on around us and not make what I consider ill-advised and uninformed statements.

    • My goodness Linda B! That is an excellent “unbiased” plug for you company…yes I do use essential oils and I have bought some from this company…and yes some of them are overpriced..Ie: lavender…non the less they are good products. But consumers must do the research and I have found a great company that sells good oils…bulkapothecary.com ….one of the items I found that costs less is the ultra sonic diffuser…HAPPY shopping!

    • It’s not that we are uneducated about the oils. I know the oils work. My daughter broke her shoulder and 2 weeks later, after using helichrysum oil and a calcium/magnesium supplement, she was able to do a big ocean swim for her junior lifeguard program. I also have a good friend who was given 5 years to live & was saved by oils. Needed a lung transplant. Is now off all antibiotics and inhalers for his asthma.
My problem is the ethics of the company. They manufacture in China and did not respond when I asked about environmental and labor concerns. I have been given bad advice from so-called “educated” wellness advocates- resulting in a third degree burn on my skin and a permanent scar from a hot oil. The MLM set up is discouraging for me. I only use about 6 different oils and don’t want to pay the annual fee and the membership and I have NO interest in selling, but cannot afford to buy it retail. Oh, and the “certified pure” label is a trademark by doTerra- there is no third party, independent testing. There is no such thing as CPTG- it’s made up by doTerra. Ingesting oils is not recommend at all except under the care of a health practitioner but doTerra encourages it all the time (because ingesting = more money). Just shady. I’m not buying the hype.
As for the MLM- there has to be quality oils out there. Think about boutique wines. You can have tiny wineries producing beautiful wines at a fraction of the cost. doTerra and YL can’t be the only ones producing good oils…

      • What oils did your friend use, who was given 5 years to live?

        • I too have bad lungs and would really appreciate any help in using the correct oils for healing. Could you please be a guide for us all in this area? Thanks for anything you can do.

      • They don’t manufacture in China. Their home base is in Utah. They get their oil sourced from around the world, where each plant grows best. I’ve seen their operation and bottling plant in Salt Lake City. They are open for tours.

The annual fee is $25 and it comes with a free Peppermint oil, valued at $21.50 wholesale, so your fee is about $4. It’s no different than joining Sam’s or Costco with a membership fee to save money on all their products. $4 to have wholesale pricing for products that work and are all natural (vs. spending money on OTC products at a store) seems like a great deal.

Do your research on all companies selling “good” oils and make up your mind. I trust that doTerra is one of the best, if not the best (YL is good too; different business practices, which is fine), but there are many other inferior oils on the market. If you find a good brand you trust, more power to you. Just don’t use incorrect facts about doTerra to assist others in making that choice.

    • Linda, finally someone knowledgeable made a comment! Oils are helping me so if someone makes some money so be it!

    • You lost me at “it is in the Bible”

I am doing my research, found this article and many of the comments make sense and are just validating what I already thought.

I own a retail store. I buy from a manufacturers and distributers. I buy wholesale. This means it costs the mfg. 2.00 to create a product, the more I buy from him the less I pay. He needs to move product. It costs him less to make 1000 things one time than 10 things 100 times. I get the discount, he sets up once.

I mark it up to pay for my rent, marketing, insurance, electricity, bookkeeper etc. I also mark up to make a little profit for myself.

      That is it.

If I go through a distributer they find a 100 people who all want a 200 blue journals, they put in one big fat order, take the large volume discount. I pay a little more but still benefit from the large order, and I go through someone who does all the homework and headaches for me.

With multi level marketing the people at the top make the money over and over and over. The people at the bottom do not, when they get a couple people selling under them they give a percentage to the top.

If you sign up guess what you do, you give a tiny percentage to that friend you are helping out and a large percentage to the people at the top.

The people at the top will make the money always. A pyramid does not have a wide top, its the base that is wide, that is why it is called a pyramid scheme.

The focus is on the marketing, not on the product. There is no real accountability. These schemes come and go and have been around forever.

If you like the product, and its expensive (even with your “discount”) then you should buy it. But it will cure nothing, it is a yummy smelling oil. There is to science that backs up any health benefits other than an association with a pleasant aroma. You will not get rich unless you got in early and got yourself to the top first.

And yes you can have a drug interaction, an allergic reaction, and have stomach upset if you invest it. Don’t believe me? pop ten peppermint gels….not so good.

Nothing in nature is meant to be used in that concentration, as a human without a factory you couldn’t even produce that. Take it for what it is and what the FDA approved it for:Cosmetic.

Killing children in the name of God is in the bible, not a good argument to promote your product.

    • Name one hospital that is using DoTerra. I’d like to go make a formal complaint.

Also please link to a single, reputable, peer-reviewed journal which demonstrates that essential oils have any medicinal value.

  15. I have bursitis in one of my knees and it hurts so bad when I am in bed, I have to get up. I have been getting steroid injections for the pain. It is time for another injection for the pain. My neighbor had me try Balance first because it is cheaper than Deep Blue. I got about 2 hours of relief from Balance. The next night I used the Deep Blue cream and I had relief for 12 hours easy. I know it is expensive but the pain relief is a wonderful thing! I am hooked!

    • Thank you for your insight on Deep Blue. My Mother has very bad knee joint pain and has begun getting steroid injections in her knees to relieve the pain. I have been looking for something more natural that might help her and have heard about Deep Blue but didn’t know anyone that had actually tried. I think I will buy some & give it a try. I hope it works as well for her as it does for you. Thanks again.

  16. I am very strongly concidering signing up with Doterra, for the savings alone, as it sounds like it would be silly not to to, if you will be using the products. Therefore I went thru and read all of the reviews here. Nothing that was said with negitivity has deterred me. I especially want to comment on the mother of the Autistic child. I believe her name was listed ANONYMOUS. You have made yourself sound like a true complainer. I doubt that you are really ever satisfied, which actually pushed me more to my decision. I had a Personal Service business for over 40 years, you just learn the ones who always want the Comps…Something for nothing. You will obviously do anything to make the Company sound horrible. I am truly sorry about your son, I know first hand about having disabilities in the immediate family. I think the reviews who imply the ones who support the use of these product; work for the Co. Well I think that implication can go both ways. And No, I am not a Rep for Doterra (yet). But I no longer wish to be pumped full of Western Poison.
And to ROSIE ~ DECEMBER 2, 2014 I am an advocate for the life saving decision you made, and I truly pray for your future Health.

    • Please do lots of homework……I was a Monavie “distributor” and my son and I drank their product for a little over a year before the economy forced me into a “real” job and I could not afford the product any longer. They now have a class action lawsuit against them for false claims with the benefits of drinking Monavie. A lot of what they said about their juice was a lie. So when I went to a doTerra meeting last night MLM’ing wasn’t the first thing she said but when I asked where it was made she said it was manufactured “at the source; lavender from France, lemon from Italy etc.” so I asked if it was organic and she kinda waivered but said yes, no chemicals are used in the manufacturing” and “do NOT buy from Amazon because they repackage their oils so it’s not safe”…..but then she started the MLM soft sell (required to purchase….just $35 to start!) that I got the whole Monavie feeling again and decided to do nothing until I checked them out. Did you know they were in a lawsuit with Young Living? This is where the doTerra people started before going off to do their own thing……the doTerra oils are NOT ALL packaged by doTerra. It is repackaged from their “vendors” and there’s no testing done outside their own company (same holds true for Young Living!)….no one independent study done to assure me that what I would drink or put on me (or my family) would actually be safe. Why would you risk that. I’m all for natural remedies but just because something says it’s all natural doesn’t mean organic or distilled or anything that removes the impurities. Make sure you work with a doctor familiar with “natural” cures…..not someone who started selling it last week, month or year so they could get a discount and make a few bucks! I’m saddened with what I’ve read about the dangers of ingesting natural oils and how this/these companies tout their effectiveness when ingested…..don’t you want to be safer than sorry if it makes you sick? Essential Oils ARE wonderful….my point is to be careful who you believe and if they’re selling via MLM they’re interested more about the bottom line than your health. They make way more money unregulated and not in a retail setting or from an actual doctor who takes it seriously enough to do HIS research before selling or prescribing it to you. That’s my two cents (sense) – do your homework – I’m not buying it, not that you needed to know that. Peace!

      • Actually, that’s not true….doTERRA DOES have 3rd party, independent testing…by 3 different companies. That’s one of the main differences with them. Yes, they also do their own testing, but all of their oils get tested by 3 different, non-affiliated companies. 🙂

      • I am with you. There are other companies that sell essential oils that are not mass produced that have direct relationships with the distillers. I use the oils, but will not take them internally nor use them neat as prescribed by doTerra. The sales people are just that, selling. They are for the most part not doctors, or aromatherapists. Most have very little training other than the little information that the company provides.
That’s my opinion, and most of the followers are so stuck in the company that it’s scary. Don’t cross them or they will really be upset.

    • Hey there Sherry B.!

I wanted to know if you are now a DoTERRA Advocate! If yes, welcome aboard! If not, contact me and let’s chat for a minute! I am a 23 year veteran massage therapist, mother of two, wife, military veteran and worked for some “Dot Coms.” I come from a typical “sides-of-the-fence” about wellness (family & friends): Voodoo vs Pharma Addict! I knew about essential oils since the beginning of time (grandmother)! It naturally skipped my “bra-burning,” micro-mini dress wearing (I love micro minis!) mother and her sisters and stuck to me!

Now that they are closing in on 70, they ask “Is there an oil for that!”

My eldest child (the biochemist, PhD grad-assistant) teaches 1st year chem students on Gas Chromatography with essential oils. (She burned through a lot of my personal stash of many brands back in undergrad!). When I sent her info on DoTerra, her advance degree response was, “That’s Wassup! You need to jump on that!”

    • Well put! I just started and I’m super excited. Best of luck!

    • Sherry I love your honesty. I have been using DoTerra Oils for 5 years now and it has changed my life for the better. My kids are now using them and we say we are healthier and happier and not full of western medicine that cause so many side effects. Don’t get me wrong. when you need medical advice by all means do the right thing but I love that with a drop here and there I can help ease discomfort and pain quickly and feel good about it.

  17. Do the oils help with menstrual cramping and menopause symptoms? Hot flashes irritability and fatigue?

    • yes — I was taking advil like smarties. since using the clary calm, I only need 4 or 5 advil for the week

    • I am experiencing “heat waves” now! Yes, DoTerra oil for women is working for me!

Contact me for more information, if you’d like!

  18. I don’t use doTERRA, I don’t use any essential oils but am interested in their potential. I hadn’t even heard of doTERRA before yesterday when I checked it out at a booth during a Earth Day celebration. I liked the product because it seemed much purer and cleaner smelling than any other essential oils I’ve smelled. The vendor lost me and a sale when she responded to my question about price with the sales pitch of a nearly $200 kit to become a rep. I wanted one or two bottles not a career.

Heads up to the doTERRA dealers that may read this…DON’T start the price conversation with your MLM pitch! You can work it in in a bit but it shouldn’t be your first words to a potential customer when they ask “how much”. What she did was spur me to look for prices online and possibly order if I can cutting her out completely. But after getting an idea of their cost from the comments here I realize I can’t afford them so will put the idea aside.

Thanks for the conversation about this company! It helped me out.

    • Wow, I’m really sorry that happened to you. I’m a dōTERRA Wellness Advocate and can tell you that was not a good representation of other Advocates. You are more than welcome at any time to buy individual oils with no commitment or pressure. There are a lot of price ranges for different products – some are very affordable and some are on the expensive side. If your still interested, please look for a Wellness Advocate that can and will send you free samples of the oils you were interested in. dōTERRA is about helping people empower themselves to manage their own health concerns, not financial gain – that’s how I feel about it. The oils have changed my life and that’s why I’m an Advocate.

      • That has been my experience also! I was not pressured to buy a kit. The wellness advocate I encountered was all about helping me understand what the oils were about. I told her I couldn’t afford a large order and she was very understanding. She talked with me about my interests and said that I could purchase one oil at a time.

      • Same things happen to me as it happens to Cheri. I was looking for something to help my friend’s migraine & ear infection to go away in more natural and healthy way, as I’m not a huge fan of pills ,but she started to give me the MLM speech, not to mention she didn’t know the price for the item I was interested in.That’s definitely a put-off and says something about the organisation itself and the way they train their rep.
I am still doing my own research , so far I found mix reviews.

        • Florin, I cringe whenever I read from people that a wellness advocate takes that approach! I understand that some people want to make money, but in teaching others about essential oils, we should be coming from a place of helping people first, making money second. doTERRA is very interested in helping people, they give a lot of money to charities, build schools and try to make life better for less fortunate people in countries where they do co-impact sourcing. To be a good representative of the company, we should infirm, share, educate….and not be be pushy! I did my own research as well, was highly skeptical even after I started using the oils (I actually looked for things to prove them wrong). I’m now at a point where I can no longer be skeptical based on the benefits I’ve received from the oils. I’ve never been pressured by my up line to “recruit” but I do talk to people who I think might be interested, because I believe in the products. And then I let them decide what is best for them. I hope whatever path you choose for your health, it’s a good one.

          • The more I read the more frustrated I become. This is not rocket science or a cure for anything. Essential oils are awesome but the information that is passed down to you from a company that has you selling not just their products but signing other people up to buy their products is not an “education” it is a sales pitch. You are not a wellness advocate you are a salesperson pitching a product with information given to you in a seminar.

I like this product for what it is and I have purchased it to scent my sheets, to make my house smell nice…I am being pitched to very gently and doing my research but I would be less frustrated if there wasn’t all this hype and “expertise” Where are the scientists? The double blind studies? The researchers? The doctors? The data? I can’t find one real piece of proof that this is anything other than what it is and you know what that should be enough, its good…it doesn’t have to cure cancer we don’t need all these stories about how it did this or that on my neighbors dod, or my grandmothers knee, or my cousins toothache, that doesn’t count as research and results that anecdotal.

Do terra is doing itself a disservice by taking a product that can stand on its own for what it is and turning it into proverbial snake oil. Geez what a little greed and a lot of stupidity will do.

    • Sherry, for essential oils, go to mountainroseherbs(dot)com. They are an herbal company in Oregon. They have really good products, many of which are certified organic, and are not a MLM company, so prices are affordable. I have purchased many of their teas and spices. I am just starting to learn about essential oils and plan to order from this company. I have been spending huge amounts of time reading about them online. I have a friend who is a Doterra Rep, so spent time looking at that company, and am finding too much negative info about their oils. The Good reviews are mostly written by their reps.

  19. Do your research – doTerra oils are of questionable quality and zero transparency about where they are sourcing – no organic certification and more “bad advice” – than good. There are excellent oils out there – and excellent information – but it is NOT from doTerra and this company whose wholesale prices are more than retail for excellent quality and companies.

  20. OMG people are so stupid! Check FDA reports on essential oils fraud. The only oil that works is Valoline and Pennzoil!

    • Yes, and the FDA has also approved scores of “drugs” that kill people every year. How many times have you heard of drug that is APPROVED by the FDA, later recalled because too many people die or have irreversible side affects? For me, if the FDA says something is “bad”, I would run right out and buy it. The FDA is in bed with drug companies – nether of them will make money if people can cure themselves with natural products. They have much to gain by suggesting these oils don’t work. And if you think the gov’t doesn’t lie to you, I’ve got a island for sale in Nebraska.

You can’t get much more natural that oils form plants. Out ancestors used them…and here we still are.

      • Thank you Beth! Having an FDA approval means less than zippola to me as the FDA has approved and then pulled lots of killer concoctions.

      • Absolute truth! I am an RN and can tell you the FDA is more interested in the drug companies making money than the health of people. If the FDA could be sued along with the drug companies in all of the lawsuits that are out there, I wonder how many they would have approved…

      • Good grief…. The “it’s natural so it must be good for you” argument is SO false and SO misleading! I really wish oil peddlers would stop using it. You know what is a plant and natural? Cocaine! It’s processed minimally and most potent – and therefore most valuable as a sellable product – when in its purest form. And you know what? It’s VERY VERY bad for you.

If you want people to stop being skeptical about using oils, quit telling people they will cure EVERYTHING. The “there’s an oil for that” comment I hear from so many oil enthusiasts makes me sick. There is simply NOT research as to the effectiveness of using these oils.

Bottom line: The doterra “wellness advocates” are not trained aromatherapists, pharmacists or biologists. THEY DO NOT KNOW what their oil products are going to do to a person. People can be allergic, childrens’ hormone levels can be compromised from using oils; these are serious consequences. Anyone considering using them – especially on children! – should exercise discernment and caution.

      • AMEN to that, Beth! People really should know by now that the government, including the FDA, is NOT your friend.

    • The FDA?! lol If you think FDA approval means anything or that they have your best interest in mind you are seriously deluded. I am not a user or advocate of doTERRA yet but know that I will never put my trust in anything sanctioned by the US government!!! Research, research, research! (btw, that means look further than the top search result in google!!)

  21. To each their own. I started using the oils because I suffer from Migraines that linger for up to 5 days at a time. Excedrin Migraine and other over the counter medicines no longer work because my body is used to them and the frequency I need to take them.

After waking up in the middle of the night with a throbbing in my head that I can only explain as the feeling of a TOO SMALL rubber band wrapped around my head TWICE, I had my husband grab me the PastTense oil I was given to try. Within MINUTES, the throbbing had calmed down enough for me to fall back asleep. When I woke up, my headache only a dull ache. It ‘tried’ to come back after an hour of being awake, so I applied PastTense again. GONE. 100% gone! A headache that would usually last me DAYS was gone within a matter of hours and two applications of PastTense.

My husband was skeptic at first and told me to do whatever I wanted, but he’d probably not use them. Now, he comes to me when he has a burn, cut, upset stomach, headache, etc. I’ve also helped others manage their pain (with Lemongrass and Deep Blue) where, after one application before bed, his wife messaged me the next morning to tell me that it was the first time he’s been able to sleep through the night in YEARS. Also, I’ve helped another get away from her sleeping pills and now exclusively uses Lavender oil. (Another success story is helping a 7 month old who had been constipated for a few days. Her mom had tried everything! I gave her DILUTED DigestZen and had momma apply it to her belly button. Within 10 minutes, she was relieved and pain free!)

Each oil isn’t guaranteed to work the same for each person. PastTense works for me, but maybe not my neighbor that uses Deep Blue instead, or peppermint. This isn’t like pharmaceuticals where it’s a “One Size Fits All” bottle of whatever medicine that’s for infections, sleep, etc. It’s trial and error on some things since each oil can help manage a very wide array of ailments.

If you don’t WANT to try them out, that’s on you. If you did try ONE OIL and it didn’t work for whatever ailment you had, and you want to give up, then that’s also on you. If you’d done your research, you’d know that there are no guarantee’s, no such thing as one oil per ailment, etc.

I’d be happy to help anyone that wants to know more about the success stories of doTERRA, rather than read all the “this is crap’ posts from people that, most likely, haven’t even tried the oils for themselves.

    • I joined doterra 4 months ago and loving there oils i have noticed a huge difference in our household using on guard in a diffuser all day long we are normally people who get sick often but since having onguard for 4 months not once sick ! No colds or flus … ! But been around contant sick people i now have frankincense which im very excited to start using ! With like anything research is the key ! But essiential oils were created by God for use in every day life so why not !

    • Thanks, Randi, your reply helps me a lot in taking the decision in giving it a try. Well,it’s more for my friend’s migraine than me.Once again thank you.
And yes, before anyone makes any negative comments they need to give it a try not making an assumption.

  22. The only oil that I’ve found to work is the Breathe Blend. Now off of my decongestant. Really happy about that, but a lot of the oils I feel are overpriced and don’t deliver.

  23. Do these help with thyroid issues?

    • Essential Oils help support the body to do what it is meant to do. Not a cure all. You’re body needs exercise and a healthy gut also! My daughter was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s at age 12. She is using DoTERRA oils because she did her research on all the brands and found that they are transparent even to the point of including an app where you can enter the batch number off the bottle a get the lab test results to show your doctor what you are taking. You should never use oils as a replacement for prescriptions that you are taking for thyroid. You may find that when using them, you medication may be lowered or adjusted. There are some procols in using the oils for certain issues. Let me know if you need assistance in that.

  24. I just started using DoTerra 3 months ago. I have acid reflux and tried a sample of DigestZen. Unbelievable! I will never by Peptobismal again. I didn’t realize how much sleep I was losing. I’ve tried other oils for other things, and they really work for me. Everyone is different. I became a member to buy the oils wholesale. It was not my intent to sell them. I have had such great results that I have mentioned their use only when I feel it might help someone. I’m a big believer in giving out samples to let the oils speak for themselves. If the business grows, great. I believe in their healing power, and the fact that the oils come from God’s natural gifts. Its really turning into a ministry for me.

  25. why do they need my social security number if I just want to buy the product ?? can I buy the product and get 25% after I pay the 35 dollar enrollment fee without giving my social security number

    • In case you want to push the product and make money, they have to report your income earnings over a certain dollar amount.

    • Your social security number is needed because you have become and independant contractor with doTerra International. Once you start receiving checks from the company they have to be accounted for by the IRS, so that a 1099 can be sent to you at the end of the year so you can pay your taxes on your earnings.

      • You do not have to become a independent contractor to buy oils from doTERRA. If you choose to sign on and start making money, then the SS# is needed. Get the facts first. ANYONE can buy a bottle of oil without giving the SS#

    • The fact that they asked you for you SSN should be your first warning. Nobody ever needs your SSn just to sell you a product. If you want to become a distributor then they would need it to report the income you make form selling the product. There are many essential oils available in many markets…most of them cheaper than doTerra. Be very careful…all Multi Level Marketing companies are scams…the people at the top make a lot of money while everyone else struggles to find buyers. Look around you can find these types of products cheaper.

      • All MLM companies are not scams; MLM is simply one of many types of business models. There are some bad ones, some good ones, and some great ones, as with any other type of business.
As an RN for 30 years, I am INTO the essential oils, and think we all had better get educated in being proactive with our health. This includes striving for better nutrition, and natural solutions to our ailments.
We are fortunate to have the cutting edge of healthcare available in this country…but we can’t depend on it to “fix” chronic diseases that begin with poor diet and lifestyle. Hospitals and doctors offices are revolving doors for these types illnesses- more and more synthetic meds with horrible side effects. I have seen it day in, day out, for 30 years. doTERRA has opened up a whole new world for me in that it has made available a way to first help my family with issues, then friends, and now I’m even earning money because I love to talk about and share these oils!
Nature is NOT A SCAM folks! And good business is good for all of us!

      • All jobs are mlm. There is always some one else over some body making more money. Your government is a mlm.

      • They asked for his Ssn because he wanted to sign up as a wholesale member. Which means he would be selling it to other people. That’s not a scam

    • Instead of using your SSN… Get your Employment Identification Number (EIN) from social security. It is a safe number your employer uses en lieu of your very sensitive SSN.

      • Really!? An EIN is the business equivalent of an SSN. In other words, it is the SSN for a business. It’s not a number assigned to employees of the business. You’re way off base here.

    • You don’t have to give your ss# to buy at a discount. If you want to go slower, ask for the Preferred Membership. This is $10 for lifetime membership and you get oils at 20% off retail instead of 25%. Almost as good. The wholesale membership asks for your ss# because you can technically turn around and resell your oils at retail prices. No different that wholesale clubs like Sams or Costco.

I have had several people enroll to start using oils with the preferred membership, and then later upgrade to wholesale WHEN they find out how well the oils work for different issues AND they start sharing…you can’t help it!!! Preferred members cannot enroll anyone else, so if you choose that option, you will need to upgrade to a wholesale membership to earn a paycheck, or if you are not interested, refer your interested “shares” to someone (person who enrolled you) who is working it for their business.

Either way, you can’t go wrong with quality essential oils…plants are natural food for our cells and provide our bodies with compounds our bodies can then use to heal themselves.
Ask the person who introduced you to doTERRA about a Preferred Membership. If that is no longer an option, then please contact me, as I would be happy to help you. I’m a believer in the oils and the business. FYI, I am an RN for almost 30 years and thrilled to find a NATURAL product that doesn’t come loaded with side effects.
You may go to my business website link; when you select “join”, you will simply select “wholesale” or “preferred customer”, it’s that simple.

    • Yes, you can sign up for $35 (like a Costco Membership) and NOT need to give them your Social Security number.

This just recently changed, so it might not be updated yet, but it’s a good thing for ALL!

    • As of April 1st, 2015 you no longer need to enter your ssn. Only if you end up selling more than $400

    • I have found the products of dotarra to be awesome however the way they treat wholesalers is horrible. First of all if you do not change your order from this month they automatically ship your same order next month. Second it is impossible to erase or delete all the products in your cart meaning they go out of there way to make sure you purchase something every month. Thirdly the credit card you give them to sign up it is impossible for you to control it from the computer meaning they want you to call them.
I am very upset that I am forced to buy every month from these people. I am also upset that I can not control my credit card myself. So monday I am calling to cancel and if they refuse all call my bank say the credit card was stolen.
PS: They ask for your social security number so if you sell things to others they can give that amount to the IRS.

      • I was told at a booth selling doTERRA yesterday that “you don’t have to buy every month with this company”. Is that not true?

      • You are talking about the loyalty rewards program. where if you keep at least a hundred PV points in your order each month you are able to start earning earning points and even cash back from each order! 1 PV equals 1 dollar in most cases. you can erase everything from you you cary and you also can change your credit card each time you order. you may want to have someone walk you through how to use the Website. there is no obligation to order anything ever again. you need to go in and edit your LRP order there you can see how to change credit cards and even delete everything in your cart.

        • I signed up for this and have found that I HAVE to order something EVERY month! The only reason I signed up this way was to get oils at the wholesale price – I have no intentions of ever becoming a distributor. Now I have to order something every month that qualifies as an LRP item – whether I need anything or not! I can’t delete my information and it won’t let me empty my cart. I guess this is how Doterra ensures that the people above me are getting “theirs”. I’m about ready to call the whole thing quits. I have bought 20+ oils, diffusers, lotions, hair products and I just don’t get it! I haven’t had any of the “revelations” that others claim – no calming effects in my children, no fewer colds and sicknesses using On Guard, none of the relief that other experience and I just keep wondering what I’m doing wrong? I am really beginning to question the whole thing – I have this arsenal of oils and haven’t found that ANY of them really do that much for me other than smell nice. Is it really all it’s hyped up to be?????

          • Amanda, call customer service and request that you be taken off of LRP, then you won’t have to place an order every month. Explain to them you weren’t properly informed by your enroller and that LRP isn’t right for you. doTERRA has FANTASTIC customer service. Your up line should be educating you on the oils you purchased and the best ways to use them. You might ask customer service for some good resources you can utilize to learn more about the oils. I’ve had very good luck with some of the oils, but I’m in a group that is all about educating and sharing information. I hope you can find someone in your area to help you, I’d hate for you to feel like giving up is the best option. Good luck to you!

    • James, you do not have to give your SSN in order to enroll and/or purchase the products. If you start earning commissions from enrolling others (which is also NOT required, you can just buy for yourself) and reach a certain amount, or if you purchase over a certain amount of oils each year, DOTERRA is required to report it to the IRS. I do not know the amounts off the top of my head, but it’s in the thousands. I’ve been a WA since May 2016 and haven’t given my SSN to them, they will send you an email if and when they need it.

  26. Love this product, but the company and customer service is horrible. They fail to state that they are only compatible with explorer or Google Chrome, even after contacting there tech support because I could not see or change basic things like my credit card. It took three days to get their page to process an order, when I finally did I was so frustrated I forgot one thing. I placed the order after midnight & called the next morning before I had received the confirmation email. I was told the order had already been processed and they could not add or cancel it. the only option I was given was that in a day or so when I got the tracking number – I could return the package and wait for a credit and then re order. One of the first auto response emails I got from their tech support stated that because of their recent success it might take a few days to answer – really if you are now so successful invest in adding a cancel button, update your customer service procedures, try some honesty. I received the order conf email after I called which means the order had not been pulled, and since UPS does not pick up in the morning even if it had it would be so much easier for them to pull the box and cancel the order now so I could re order everything I needed and not pay the high shipping fees twice. There is a point when even a good product is not worth dealing with a bad company – while I love my local rep, these guys have just become too hard to deal with. For sure going to now order some young living oils and compare the companies. And in addition I am going to place this review everywhere.

The product is good but with this company it is buyer beware, they do not value service, are not upfront with their policies, and in my experience are misleading at best.

    • Interesting, my order when in about the same time you claim yours did, I had no problems and received my order two days later without any problems. Not sure what happened on your end, but I suggest that you contact your uplink to get some help on ordering in a way that does not cause you problems in the future. Also every call I have made to customer service, no matter what the problem has been they have been courteous and swift are resolving problems, to the point of even calling me back if they did not have the answer needed and had to do some research. I hope that you can have better luck with your order in Jan of 2015.

      • You must be a rep. I agree with Hope and have experienced the same and just opened up another damaged product. It came with 1/5th of the oil gone from leaking. There was oil all over and the bubble wrap was full.of oil. This was a $32 bottle plus tax and $7 shipping so the leak cost over $10. But I have endured so much emotional distress from how they have treated me on other damaged products that I am too scared to even call anymore. They tell you how it is not possible and do not belive you.

        • there are numerous companies that have the same quality oil or better for alot less. i use ananda apothecary and rocky mountain oils. ananda gives away free product with a certain $ amount. if you like them on facebook they give you free oil. free shipping your first order and free with $99 purchase after that .if not i think its 6.95 flat rate . several of my invoices have had a flower or smiley face drawn on it .. they are a great company with obvious nice workers. i’ve never called them so i cant say about customer service. give them a try i think you will be pleased

          • Fully agree. Most of the personal care product Doterra sells has lots of chemicals and twice more expensive than 100% natural product like Dr. Bronners. And Doterra claims this product to be natural. Rip off.

      • You are a blatant liar. I’m pretty sure you work for the company and not as a distrib. They have some of the worse customer service people in any industry I’ve ever investigated. They have ONE customer service person. The entire companyis a big scam. Stay far, far away. Young Living is much more responsive and has better prices, but, alas, it too is a MLM company. They all suck!

        • Oh, I so disagree with you on this! I think price wise they are abou tthe same or less than UL but I’ve had terrible luck with YL Customer Service. I’ve called them beofre and been told it was 160 minutes wait time. They sent me the wrong product once – Lavender instead of lemon and refused to send me the correct product. They are constantly out of product as well. I’m going to try DoTerra and hopefully I’ll have better luck.

    • I too have had HORRIBLE customer service with Doterra. I think they have a great product, but they have a LONG way to go in the customer service department.

    • First, I am a doTERRA Wellness Advocate but that does not color what I am about to say. I have had four times in four years when I needed to contact customer service and have never had a problem. They were always courteous and responsive to my problem. They were quick to rectify damages caused by leakage and corrected order fulfillment errors. I understand the frustration of waiting until the last minute to change an auto shipment order and not being able to cancel or change a submission. I do know however, if possible they have tried to help me with these issues as well and sometimes have been able to accommodate my requests and rectify my error. I also understand that with all of the orders they fill it would be impossible to find my box among all of the boxes prepared for shipment. I am sorry that others have not had the same wonderful customer service experiences that I have had but for those who may want to try doTERRA, I suggest that the complaints listed here probably represent the exception rather than the rule. If you do have a customer service issue please contact the person who introduced you to doTERRA and let them contact the company for you. I am a very satisfied customer.

    • I have problems being a wholesaler. I am unable to go a few months without selling something. I try to empty my cart and the computer never lets me delete my last item. Also my credit card is controlled by them not me. I am upset.

  27. What one has to remember is, natural products may take a little longer to heal. Our bodies were created to heal itself–IF we take care of it. If you don’t eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. If you are eating fast foods often, we can not expect our bodies to instantly be healed by a drop of oil. We live in an instant society and therefore want to be healed immediately. I know the oils will work, just like any natural product. Peppermint oil has helped my husband’s headaches. Melaleuca oil helped my sinus infection clear up. Trust me I enjoy my junk food, but I try to eat balanced meals more then eating my junk food. Thank you and may God bless each of you with wisdom and insight.

  28. DOTERRA IS A SCAM!!!!!! I joined because it claimed to help my son with autism. I have had the worst experience. Here is all the bad experiences and all in just over 1 year:

    1. I got a defective product from day 1 and they replaced it but they see it doing you a favor even when it is defective.

    2. I got one oil that was only 2/3 full and it was expensive. I asked for replacement and they did give me some “loyalty reward points” (which expired) and they considered this a favor!!! No warranty they said in either cases.

    3. One of my shipments never even came. Some took a long time to arrive. They did send it again but they counted that as another favor and counted it against me.

    4. They tell you returns are welcome anytime – satisfaction guaranteed. That is not true. They count everything. I only did one return due to dissatisfaction/ misleading product. They have misrepresentations online on certain products. I tried the IQ Mega because they claim it helps with autism. They say on their site no fish taste or smell because of the citrus. My bathroom stunk and my son was gagging on it and did throw up. I had to return that. Of course they were doing me a favor. You will all understand why I am saying these are all favors.

    5. You have to make monthly orders to keep your loyalty points and supposedly you have until midnight on the day you want the order to go through. The site does not mention anywhere it was not pacific standard time. One time (I have been a member for a year), I forgot to change my prior month order until close to midnight. I got an email showing the prior month order. I called right away but they were closed. I called the very next day and even though it did not ship, they said they could not change it and I can return it. I did and then wanted to charge me a return fee. I had to argue with them about their misleading policy before they would waive it. Yet, this was yet another favor to me.

    6. I purchased these roller ball lids that are supposed to fit on your 15ml bottles. I made this very expensive blend made of mostly $30-70 dollar oils and I went to put the roller ball lid on it and did it with gentle pressure. The whole bottle shattered!!! I was glad I was not injured. Yet they were relentless. The roller balls were about $15 after tax and the blend was well over $60. I had to argue and argue before they were willing to just send a replacement bottle of one of the ingredients that was used the most in the blend (worth $30). I did not get a refund for the defective roller balls.

    7. Now all of the above was used against me in an email. I have it. They said because they gave me all of the above favors, they could not give me my expired loyalty rewards points of $97. When I called about the IQ Mega, I found out as a side conversation that $97 points were gone and was then told they expired. Even though they expired only about a week or less ago, they could do nothing. There is no way to track the points online. I recently was told of some points expiring and used more than that amount and thought I am safe for a while. The rep did not mention the $97 that was also going to expire. I already have to order at least $50 each month (I only have used 1/10 of what I have bought). To use the loyalty rewards, you get charged $3 or 6 (can’t remember) for each $100 of use. Thus, you want to wait until you have just under $100 so it makes most sense. I can only buy so much oil. They told me to contact their legal dept because they could not do anymore, so I did. Almost 2 months later, they finally respond and the first sentence is “This is not an issue our legal Department needs to address …” Then, they go to list all of the above “favors” they have done for me and how they did not have to do any of them as there is no warranty and that they have done enough and will not do anything about my expired 97 points. The 97 points is essentially $97 (I earn about ~20% on what I buy) so you can tell I bought a lot. The points were the only reason I continued. They are too expensive to buy without the points. I also did all this for my son due to the many claims of this and that oil will solve autism. It is all in their books and guides.

Now I just saw an article in Sept on how they are in trouble with the FDA for making these claims!!!!! I feel so scammed. I lost so much money on this company. It is bad enough I had such bad products and misleading experiences (I still continued for my son) but to have each one counted against me like they were the good people doing a favor for me each time when they are giving me defective and misleading products, I could not swallow this. That is just wrong. They claim that all products are satisfaction guaranteed but you can see it is not as they claim. I ended up paying for all the bad items and favors with this $97 I lost. Stay away!!!! Do not get sucked into this gimmick and scam!!! I have so many products I bought that are not as claimed (I did not return because I just did not like them) – the slim and sassy is disgusting (very hard to digest). The past tense is so smelly, I cannot wear it without worrying I am bothering people.

    • I’m saddened to hear you have lost so much money. Do some research about essential oils and got to ananda apothecary or rocky mountain oils. They have wonderful oils at a very reasonable price about a 1/3 of the cost of those other terrible companies. dont give up on the oils for hour son. rocky mountain oil has a similar one to trim and sassy that is so nice. good luck

    • Does anything make you happy? Take ownership of your own crap and stop blaming the world.

  29. Not a total scam but does not work. Its all in your heads

  30. Well, none of this sounds very good. I haven’t joined nor purchased anything yet and I now am very reluctant to. The oils are not cheap, I suppose I should start with just one and go from there? I am looking for oils that are good for my skin (lines, acne, pores, unevenness, etc.), the thing about it is, you have to “join”, I don’t really like that, in order to take advantage of the 20% off retail, then if you never order again, you’re out $35. Welcome to the pyramid thing or the MLM thing, not sure what that MLM stands for, but whatever. My friend that sells these oils is all about it and loves what she has tried so far, and I have known her for years, and I trust her, but everyone re-acts to these oils differently, it seems. Anyone familiar with the Frankincense oil? I have been using another name brand oil (a Frankincense kit that I bought-cleanser, toner, moisturizer and a little vial of oil), that I really like and have actually seen a pretty big improvement in just a month. Just wondering….

    • It’s interesting to read the various opinions on the products. The only way to really know is to try them for yourself. I have yet to try the Frankincense, though I’m curious as to what it can do! My personal experience that made me a “believer” in the oils is when I had a pretty serious headache (I considered it a migraine, dizzy, near-vomiting, felt like my eyeballs were being stabbed!) so I searched my cabinet for some Advil. Well, instead, I noticed the oils sitting there (yes, I didn’t use them often because I rarely am sick so forgot they were there) and tried the recommended peppermint and lavender oils across my forehead and behind my neck. In about 5 minutes, the major edge of the headache was gone! No more feeling of vomit and I felt like I could open my eyes. It was about 45 minutes after that when the majority of the headache was gone. I could still feel a small ache, but at that point, felt like nothing. About 5 hours later, the headache started to return, so I used those two oils one more time. After that dose, the headache disappeared! That was enough to convince me of the oils’ validity. 🙂

    • Just go to your local health food store and get the oils, or even Amazon. Simple and done.

      • Don’t use amazon because you could be buy an adulterated oil. they can repackage in new bottles and dilute it with a carrier oil and sell it to you as a pure oil… use ananda apothecary or rock mountain oils

    • I joined. I wanted to get wholesale prices. Problem is they force you to buy something every month because the last item in your basket you could never erase. Also if you forget to change what you ordered last month in your basket, they automatically ship them to you the next month. Also the credit card you use to sign up with well they control it. Meaning you cant erase it from the computer the folks that signed you up keep the number. so I am so upset I am thinking of calling the bank say it was stolen.
I cant afford to buy $100 worth of items every month

    • I began using doTerra oils five months ago. I was dubious about the effectiveness of oils for my health, and I had real health issues. I am diabetic, and I am on dialysis for advancing renal failure. I have been receiving medical care for years for these issues, and I just kept getting weaker and sicker. I woke up tired, and struggled to climb stairs. My legs were weak, and I just felt my health was going down hill. I found myself at 66, unable to stand when i fell down. My doctors keep adding more medications with no real positive results. After five months of using a variety of doterra oils, I awake refreshed. There is greater spring in my step. Really!. My legs feel stronger, and I’ climbing the stairs in my home markedly more easily; and I can stand up again from the floor. I am now exercising every day, Some people tell me it is the exercise that is changing me, but I have exercised for years. The only change in my protocol in the last six months is that I have begun using essential oils. I don’t believe it is a miracle cure for any ailment, but I know that my health is improving significantly for the first time in years during the past few months.

  31. I’m sorry .i tried some oils and blends with zero results ,i spent $1000 and they do nothing,i don’t know how other say it’s working,I tried for cracked heel 1 mo.=zero, hemorrhoids -zero,sleep -zero,notning

  32. I just started using DoTerra Oils. I was so excited after the first class I attended. I bought “Serenity” as I was hoping it would help my 8 year old son with his sleeping issues. I have been applying it to his feet as suggested but nothing has changed. I desperatly wanted this to work. Am I applying it correctly?

    • Hi Rachael! Try Vetiver – if the serenity blend is not help a pure Vetiver may!

    • I love DoTerra and so do my 3 children in their 20’s. I myself, as well as my “kids” find Serenity to work. I put a drop on each temple and rub it in, as well as the feet. White Fir helps with the pain of bursitis. Everything I’ve tried helps. I’m sorry it doesn’t seem to work for some people. Past Tense is wonderful for headaches. I got into DoTerra to use it, don’t care about selling.

    • My mom and aunt both use it but instead of rubbing it on their feet they rub it on their temples and neck. They also put lavender in a diffuser and it seems to help as well. I just bought my first kit….I get terrible headaches/migraines and I’m tired of taking meds for it so I hope the oils work!

    • Try doTerra’s Lavender, Vetiver or Cedarwood , one drop on the bottom of each Big toe. Vetiver is a thick oil so it generally comes out slowly.

One or all of these individually should work, they work for my wife an I, and so many others. Remember if too much is used the reverse effect is very possible. REMEMBER LESS IS MORE !

  33. Would it be worth joining to just get a better price on the oils as I’m not interested in starting a business?

    • This was the same questions my wife and I had. We found out that you can pay a $35/year fee and purchase oils at wholesale prices. This adds up to a lot of saving it you purchase very many. We started that way almost year ago and have been so impressed with the way the oils have helped our family (us, our toddler, and our infant). As with anything, not all the oils work for every single ailment, but many unquestionably work for us. In fact have had so many people impressed with the success we’ve has with them that we are often approached us about how to buy them–so much so that we finally decided to start “sharing” (their term for selling). For us it is becoming a great way to help people, and the we are starting to make enough money to pay for the oils we are purchasing for ourselves. Not looking to make a killing… just supporting healthiness for ourselves and our friends.

    • Yes, it it you can get wholesale prices for only $35 a year and also you can get that waved, you also save 25% for wholesale prices. They are a little more expensive but they are the purest and strongest oils you will find with vigorous testing more than any other company. I see in his check list on doTerra he has missed a whole lot of them. Find a class, check them out and there is no commitment only free knowledge. It is easy for people to say negative things about something but they should try it first. You also can do it just for yourself and there is no commitment to by anymore, sell anymore. You do not have to purchase every month if you do not want to. You can purchase these oils just for your own use. I just signed up this week and have tried a few and yest they work. Go to a class and see it for your self and oh the classed are FREE!

    • I started using doTERRA oils because I was going to have gastric bypass surgery, and I have debilitating arthritis. The problemis, you can’t use arthritis meds/ NSAID pain relievers EVER AGAIN after having the surgery. I was desperate to find a different method of pain/inflammation control. I began with the Lifelong Vitality Pack… i also used lemon, lavender, and peppermint (I was told these would help me with my alergies).
Let me be very clear…I tried them because I was deaperate, not because I really believed they would help.
I have been using the oils for about five months now. After about 5-6 weeks, I was completely off of my arthritis medication… my allergy medicine… my blood pressure medicine … AND the narcotic pain meds that I have been on for over 20 years!!! (For the last eight years I have taken morphine for my pain)
I am now recovering from my surgery, and I am healthier… and happier than I have been in 20 years, or more.
I cannot speak for other people, but I can tell you what has worked for me… that said, it was easy for me to save $35 … I’ve already saved more than that. You should also keep in mind, doterra offers extra discounts on select oils, monthly, free oils with qualifing purchase, monthly, and special holiday promotions.
Even if you take advantage of only one or two of these special promotions, you have made the enrollment fee worth it! (Without selling anything, or signing anyone up for the program)
I know it was a long- winded reply to a simple question 🙂

I’d also like to add… I personally have found their customer service to be exceptional. Even when I spilled half of a bottle because the dropper was defective. No questions asked, no rewards points lost. They simply replaced my bottle… and never even asked me to return the half empty bottle.

      • I am interested in the oils that allowed you to get off pain meds and how long before you noticed improvement. Thank you, T

  34. I am ONLY looking to purchase one doTerra product called “”in Ttune”

    • JD…did you find how to purchase In Tune yet? Its on sale right now for the month of Aug. Just go to their website and order it. I love that it comes in the roll on bottle!

  35. I personally have been to numerous so called work from home, sell this product gatherings. All I can tell you is that you can tell each and every time that the product is, well not a actual helping product. The person who wants you to join will tell you amazing things that the product actually did for them, the real truth about these claims are, you have to create yourself in your own way just how this product helped you… that is number one rule if you want to sell to the public, the reason that these companies pop up and will continue to pop up is because they make money simply because humans in general are followers, we will fall for every darn item that is or has a claim to somehow make our lives better, this is scientific human nature! they have scientifically exploited our humanism… and we all have been victim to false reality… we want to believe that these items really will help us, because we have bec0me very aware that our life here on earth is limited and will never really be the life that we were taught as children, that we could do anything, and be anything, and when this false reality that we believed in because we were so young never becomes the true life that they said would happen, this makes us feel like losers who failed, and each and every one of the so called loser’s still hang on to the false reality that they were taught as children, and because we do this we will fall for scams like this and all the other ones every single time, not because we are bad or ignorant but because we were raised up in a cultivated environment that made us feel that we should and maybe could be more than the person we ended up being, truthfully you are probably doing the best you can, no matter what your circumstances are, and no one ever should try to tell you that what you do is not good enough, and that you can be better if you buy their product… please understand that the power of Persuasion will only last for a short time, you will want the product to perform the way they claim but this will never occur and when you finally realize the fact that they are stealing from you, truth is you will probably have already spent your hard earned money there and that is all they wanted you to do, even if you spend small amounts and not buy the seller package, then they have accomplished a monetary gain from the person who has been told their whole live what it is to be “ideal” and what their so called happiness is! we are better than this and we all need to accept that we are just fine with the lives given to us..

    • You said it best!

    • It is easy to take advantage of uneducated people, but there is truth mixed with the false claims. Go look at government studies on effects of essential oils and compare to what the seller claims. Right now many antibiotics are not working, and the government has been scrambling for solutions. They are actually admitting for example that fresh garlic chewed or crushed has antibacterial properties that are more effective and/or help strengthen available antibiotics agains superbugs. The miracle is allicin. Garlic oil would never work. Unless your mouth is burning, you aren’t getting allicin. There is real science behind many claims. It is wrong to make false claims, but it doesn’t mean that the oils are b.s. It just means some sellers put money before morality. If I sold these products, I would encourage customers to learn independently. I have used natural products that benefited me more than expensive prescribed products and vice versa. I believe that there is a time for a drug and a time for a natural product. Antibiotics in particular are over prescribed, and natural products like basil oil may work. Medicine is a last resort, not a first. Cinnamon and Oregano oil are two that are well researched. Education is power for the seller as well as the customer. Psychological exploitation happens too often, and is not justified. It is an unfortunate fact of the pecking order in my opinion. I have been gullible, so I never listen to salesmen anymore.

  36. So I have been using doterra for about 2 months now and I was very skeptical at first. I did all my research on essential oils and there are a lot of bad oils out there. the only one I have found to be effective is doterra. A friend introduced them to me for my husbands ptsd that he came back with from the war, with also with severe depression and thought about suicide every day. He stared the life long vitality pack and with in 30 days he does not have those feeling anymore and he is the happiest that he has ever been in his whole entire life. So that really worked well for us. Also my son got up one morning I took one look at him and I know something was wrong. He was white as snow and then stared throwing up all over. I put the digest zen on his belly and on guard on the bottoms of his feet, with in 45 Minutes the color returned back into his face and with in a hour he stared eating again. I am a believer. I hope they never stop selling this stuff because it has changed our lives in so many ways.

    • Jessica, Thank you for your husband’s sacrifice. I am not only thankful for his sacrifice, but I am thankful for yours, as well. The families often do not get recognized, but there sacrifice is great, as well. God Bless your husband and I am so glad to hear he is feeling better. Please let him know that America appreciates him and please know that we appreciate you, as well. God Bless America!

  37. Okay, so my wife just got involved in this less than six months ago. We’ve never done MLM marketing but my mom and sister had. I was only in support of allowing my wife to give the oils a chance.

I was converted because it worked (for us at least) and there were studies that helped shore up my trust in the product. Also, I have seven kids, two of whom are special needs and healthcare is expensive. This has become a great (not alternative) supplement to my family’s health.

Also, I have been shocked that with very little effort my wife gets about 200-400 dollars a week from people that have enrolled under her. I think anyone well connected and open to sharing things they believe in could easily have a career with doTERRA.

As to the MLM aspect, I don’t see what’s wrong with it. I don’t know why MLM is “hustling” while any other business is some how more legitimate because its not MLM. We sell what we believe in (and sometime what we don’t believe in [I’ve a business and do for people things that I wouldn’t do for myself b/c that’s what THEY want]), but there is nothing that makes MLM inherently a “hustling” scheme. That is just ridiculous. I think most MLM is stupid just b/c of the product (Mary Kay is stupid, but I’m a guy)

  38. I’m a distributor of doTERRA, and I do make a decent amount. The first stage is the hardest (getting people involved) but even that isn’t too bad and after that it’s smooth sailing. I have friends that are making a lot more than me ($3,500-$125,000 a month. YES a month). All of these people have been doing the business for 6 years or less. 6 years to be making $125,000 a month? I’ll take it 🙂

Plus, I have seen some truly amazing things happen with the oils. Just like conventional medicine, not every product works for every person.

    • Hey Jenny. Thanks for you comments.

I know about the successes of MLM. When I was in MLM, I also had “friends” (distributors often refer to their uplines as friends) that were making $2 million…YES…$2 million per month. I’ve met people making more in 1 year than Doterra’s net worth!!

That’s all great and dandy, but the question is how much are YOU making per month and is this really for you?

The key is to really believe 100% in what you are doing. If you have just 1 ounce of doubt about what you’re involved with here in MLM whether it be the product or opportunity, I think there are better options for you.

In my opinion, MLM is all about hustling people into a downline really, at the cost of sometimes family/friends relationships. You’re just very limited: it’s either sell the product, and/or recruit. If you’re not good at this, you’re crap out of luck!!

If $3,500 is a lot more than you, then I think you’re selling yourself short. You could probably be making 10x’s more with the same amount of time and energy you are putting into your business, doing online marketing. That’s just my opinion.

I do wish you the best of luck!!!

      • I would like to see proof of these people making this money. Like a W2 or pay stub. That’s is all.

  39. Doterra states the essential oils can be taken internally they are 100% natural, however, you do not have to take internally if administered and applied to the skin as instructed you will have the same result .

    • Arsenic is natural, too. I wouldn’t take it internally. The “natural” argument doesn’t fly.

    • I just started the Wild Orange and am amazed with my results. Also the DigestZen has me sniffing the bottle and not on acid pills now. Going to try one more to see if it helps before signing on. I really don’t want to sell it, just use and share the ones that work.
I am surprised to see so many comments about people using too much or not in the right way, then they call nanny’s up (FDA) to spank the company. FDA allows more people to die from big pharma meds than any alternative medicine ever has.
I just hope I never have to see a western tool Dr. again. I don’t know if all oils will give great results yet the two I have are wonderful.

  40. i love the oils i got a cold yesterday and took one ongard plus pill and now i fell better than ever!

  41. FYI the oils that have supplemental facts on them mean that they are approved by the FDA for internal use. If they weren’t doTERRA and a lot of other oil companies who do or do not follow these labels would have major law suits on their hands. Also, I have replaced all of my otc and pharmaceutical drugs that I had been using, from antibiotics to ibuprofen. Just because one oil works for someone, doesn’t mean it will work for you. You have to try new things and find out what resonates with you best! Then maybe you will see why so many people choose to participate making money with this company; you’re not just earning money, you are healing people.

    • Sorry, but the oils are not FDA approved. Even on Doterra’s website there is a “Are Essential Oils FDA Approved?” page.

      • The FDA does not “approve” dietary supplements or foods at all. They only give approval for prescription and over-the-counter drugs only.

        • The FDA does approve food. It’s the Food and Drug Administration. The oils are not approved by the FDA for their supposed medicinal properties, which is why the FDA disclaimer exists. The ones that are recommended for internal use have been approved by the FDA as safe to ingest, even though the government cannot vouch for their ability to make you feel better.

          • The FDA does not approve doTERRA oils of any variety, regardless as to whether or not internal use is suggested. Further, the FDA does not approve any essential oil. The industry as a whole is unregulated in the United States.

          • To set the record straight regarding the FDA, one must understand how it even came about. It started back a very long time ago with a group of physicians and how they could assure money will continue to flow into the right hands. But,.. Long story short, the FDA cannot approve of something if that something was God Made and not man made. Before they will even discuss a product for approval, one must submit a large amount of money; (usually the same amount for everyone to get things started). No money? No chance of being heard. Yes, FDA wants to be paid ‘to approve’. You pay required amount and have Patent, great chance it will be approved. Hey, look at all the medical recalls; it’s about the money first! Secondly, someone(s) needs to submit their Patent. Man cannot take credit for what man did it create or invent! So, in answering FDA situation, it’s not if they will or won’t..(you pay, show patent, your approved) but if a product is going to create Financial Gain, how does one pay money to The Higher Power?
They don’t and therefore can’t. But that should never influence you to disregard.

    • FDA don’t work and everybody knows that FDA certifies week and watered down drugs…not impressive.

    • The lady who signed me up told me dotarra was the only company selling essential oils that was FDA approved! She lied to me.

  42. I have tried the oils for over a month and they did not work for me or my kids. They just smell good and that’s all they’re really good for. And after finding out how much they are I would rather spend my money somewhere else.

    • Bianca, How did you use the essential oils with your children? If you applied them on their feet it works best. doTerra Oils have many benefits, my favorite is replacing drugs with safe and natural alternatives. Feel free to reply here if you need any help.

  43. I tried the slim and sassy blend yesterday. Instructions said to put 8 drops in 16oz of water and drink. I used half of that and found myself puking for hours last night. I loved the idea of these oils but I think it’s safe to say you shouldn’t ingest them even if it tells you to.

    • if you fallow the directions you wont be throwing up.

    • I just started using Doterra. I love the slim and sassy, but I only do 1 drop on my stomach before meals. 8 just seems like a lot. I’ve lost a few lbs already. I’ve noticed it helps curb cravings in between meals.

  44. I have used doTerra oils for about 3 months. I started using this ONLY to see if it could help me. I am not interested in getting potential customers, etc. So far the ones that I have used haved worked, not cured the problem but helps. I am hoping that in time may be I can discontinue some drugs that I take.

    • Xango juice has proven clinical studies to cure!!!! All natural juice!!!
